Timika Sukhai

Timika Sukhai is an international student from South Africa who recently graduated with an MA from the University of Dundee. Alongside their studies, she worked within the University’s Archive and Museum Services, where she supported collections care, interpretation, and public engagement. This role has deepened her understanding of the responsibilities and possibilities of curatorial work, particularly in relation to ethical representation and inclusive storytelling.

With three years of prior experience in visitor-facing roles, she brings a strong foundation in communication and accessibility skills which she is now applying in a heritage context. Timika’s academic and professional interests converge around Indigenous histories, land, displacement, and the legacies of empire, with a focus on using archives and exhibitions to challenge dominant historical narratives.

Timika’s creative-historical work explores how museums can serve as active spaces for dialogue and memory, in particular for marginalized communities. She is currently developing a project that highlights pre- and post-colonial archival material, making use of digital platforms to foster public engagement and historical awareness.

Long-term, Timika hopes to curate interdisciplinary spaces, both physical and digital, that prioritize lived experience, community knowledge, and creative expression. Timika seeks to expand her curatorial practice, collaborate with artists and cultural workers across Africa, and contribute meaningfully to reimagining the role of contemporary art institutions within the continent.
